Asteroids is one of those foundational video games that was novel in its design and inspired a whole genre of space shooters for decades after. It is one of the most popular, and most frequently played games ever. The physics of games such as Asteroids and its influences - Spacewar!; Space Invaders - were calculations that early game designers spent a lot of time on. Another bunch of people that also spend a lot of time considering space physics is the National Aeronautics and Space Administration - otherwise known as NASA.
